For over 25 years Hans is working on European Affairs at regional, European but primarily for the city of Rotterdam. Since 2003 he is representing the city in Brussels and since 2007 he acts as the representative for the management authority of the regional operational programme West Netherlands. In his work he has been closely involved in the development of the urban agenda from the original urban innovative actions, to the Urban Community Initiatives, the urban strand within Objective 2, to the Integrated Territorial Investments for sustainable urban development. In 2014 he published an overview of Urban Policies in Europe in the research report "Cities as Engines of sustainable competitiveness. European urban policy in practice". Hans has a MBA and a postgraduate MSc Management of the European Metropolitan Region from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
