Working corner: Involving citizens through a Community-Led Local Development (CLLD)

Location: Pillar Hall, Alfandega
Date: Fri, January 31
Time: 9:00 AM - 10:20 AM

In the exhibition area a meeting for approx. 25 persons will be organised by the Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee.

Objective: How can European Union strengthen its ties with the Member States and regain the trust of its citizens through better governance of urban/ rural areas

Description: The Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee stress that territorial instruments such as Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) or Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) are well-proven measures to get "Europe closer to citizens". By actively involving all local stakeholders and citizens, it is able to respond to European needs using local means and, as a result, helps boost the legitimacy of the EU. Moreover, LEADER/CLLD is also a powerful tool to implement the Sustainable Development Goals on a local level. In order to fulfil its purpose of supporting ”structural changes, building community capacity and stimulating innovation”, the Commission should ensure that all future programmes distinguish CLLD rules from the mainstream – and create a simple, enabling delivery system for all aspect of the LEADER/CLLD method.
